The ‘author function’ is a term coined by poststructural theorist Michel Foucault to describe how readers attribute certain characteristics that they believe belong to the author and ascribe them to the writing. In theoretical terms, the project explores ‘performativity’ of the ‘author function’. The fragments of audio are sliced, extracted and rearranged from individual words of her readings to produce a seamless collage of poetry. The audio presents a phonetic collage of Plath’s voice from BBC recordings of her poems Lady Lazarus and The Applicant during her stay in London and a few years before her death in 1963. It suggests a construction of identity to place. It shows how the attribution of an author by the reader becomes complicated from the instability and constantly changing state of screen-based interfaces like that of the project.įor example… Plath, an American who lived in England for only a few years, oddly spoke with a fake English accent during these readings. While the project primarily touches on issues of authorship, embodiment and performativity, discourse surrounding digital and new media poetics shows the effect it has on the reader too. The installation explores how meaning shifts from the intended authors recorded on the audio, video and images to myself through the process of collaging and recording the installation objects. The video component was a series of video collages of texts documented near the location where Plath committed suicide in Camden, London. Lady/Applicant: The Lazarus, 2010, Video Collage The audio component was collaged from the poems that Sylvia Plath read in the early 1960s entitled Lady Lazarus and The Applicant to form a new hybrid poem entitled Lady/Applicant: The Lazarus. The installation consists of audio and video collages that are created through the cutting and rearranging of prerecorded audio and video recordings of texts into sequences of connected texts that play new poems. Lady/Applicant: The Lazarus, 2010, Audio Collage Installation Details Printable PDF versions of the audio and video poems can be found here for audio and here for video. The collaged audio and video poems can be experienced through watching and listening to them. The act of shifting references away from the author’s life and intention enables the writing to become more open to alternate interpretation, more open to this new historical moment and audience. But, instead of disembodying the writing entirely away from the author, the author now wavers productively between Plath, reader/viewer and myself. The collaging of audio and video clips reembodies Plath as an omnipresent ghost and shifts meaning away from an exclusive association with the tragically depressed, the pathologized Plath. The imperatives of this role still weigh heavy upon the production of her biography and the reception of her work. Since Plath’s suicide almost 50 years ago, she continues to be cast as a depressed wife and mother. By presenting collaged audio and video recordings, the project radically questions the power traditionally associated with the author. These identities are particularly those from street signs and audio clips of renowned confessional poet Sylvia Plath. For more previews using your own text as an example, click here.Lady/Applicant: The Lazarus is a multimedia installation and experiment in new media poetics that strategically re-imagines authorial identities.Ĭhris Girard describes the audio and video poems from the installation, 2010 Here is a preview of how Scarlet will look. The Scarlet includes the following font families: With Scarlet’s warm unique flavor and touch in the design of the stylish and playful sixties, you can feel where it works best, whether in the pages of magazines, on packaging, or on the screen. OpenType features help you handle ligatures, old style figures and other glyph sets, in a smart way. Both typefaces have small caps and an extended character set to support Western, Central and Eastern European languages. Scarlet comes in 12 styles, Scarlet Script in 7 (see also Scarlet Wood). In his admiration of the graphic language of the 1960s, Jürgen Huber has designed this sans serif typeface with a matching script in 2015/16. Had Alexander Girard & Aldo Novarese teamed up to design a typeface, Scarlet might have been the result. It seems like the identical product to Fischer DuoPower I'm guessing Hillman bought it from Fischer. Sure, for small weights and small screws, like mounting a smoke detector, you can probably just get away with the regular technique using the same anchors you'd use if it were drywall - except, I'd use a masonry bit until you get through the plaster.įor medium weights, what I've used to hang various size pictures on lath and plaster walls is Hillman DuoPower. Some expanding anchors are expecting a specific thickness of drywall past which point they will then expand: these types won't expand as expected in lath and plaster. And if your drill hits right between 2 laths, it's however thick the plaster is there. But if you drill in the upper part of a lath, it's plaster plus lath plus another layer of plaster "fingers". If your drill hits the lower part of a lath, the thickness is plaster plus lath. When the first layer of wet plaster is troweled onto the lath, a variable amount of plaster squeezes through the spaces between the strips of lath wood, curl downward with gravity and eventually harden into "fingers" gripping the lath below. It may vary from place to place around the house or even in different areas of the same wall. The second difference is thickness you're not really sure how thick the plaster plus lath is going to be. When you hit wood, you won't know you've hit a stud until you've drilled farther than the thickness of a stud. Oh, and put a bit of blue tape first so your masonry bit is less likely to "walk". The first difference is: use a masonry bit when drilling lath and plaster, then when you strike wood (whether it's a lath or a stud), switch to a regular twist drill bit suitable for wood. The large threaded plastic anchors that work so well in drywall won't work in lath and plaster. The plaster in lath and plaster is more like limestone. Using anchors in lath and plaster is very different from anchors in drywall.ĭrywall is a much softer plaster containing more gypsum or calcium sulfate with a layer of paper on each side. You may be able to get an impression of the usually required data by checking out some of the recent threads. But again, we cannot provide much help if you do not provide relevant information such as the aforementioned items. Thus, even if you had a fully OpenGL (preferably NVIDIA/ATI) capable hardware accelerator board with dedicated 256MB RAM, it would still be possible to start FlightGear with ridiculous startup settings, so that even a decent system would no longer be able to provide decent performance for such settings. your startup settings (resolution, airport, aircraft, scenery complexity (3D clouds/shadows?), AI scenarios etc.) All of these things may have a varying degree of impact on the overall performance. As of now there is still plenty of information lacking, i.e. Apart from that you need to realize that there is a variety of possible reasons for the behaviour you are experiencing, many of which can only be ruled out if you provide complete data for your system and FlightGear itself properly. So you may first want to make sure that other OpenGL apps work properly for your system, before looking into FlightGear specifically. However, on the other hand you do not even have all that much RAM in the first place, 256MB can probably be considered to be the minimum amount of RAM recommended for use with FlightGear. So you may first want to really make sure that your mainboard's OpenGL chipset has full OpenGL support and what sort/amount of RAM it has, then it would be crucial to make sure your drivers actually make use of your hardware's capabilities. Also, you MAY be able to get some more performance out of it by using some more RAM for your 3D chipset (from your main RAM). You can add these items one by one to your scheduling app so you know you’ve recorded them, or use a technique like the Getting Things Done (GTD) method to systematically capture everything you need to get done. Then, you can simply copy the template, update it with today's tasks, and get to work.īefore you can organize your to-dos, you first need to make a list of all the items you need to do for the day. You can use the same outline for your schedule every day-a daily schedule template. That's where a daily schedule comes in-you can book time in your daily calendar for everything you need to accomplish in the next 24 hours. Juggling this mental to-do list is exhausting, and more often than not, it doesn't help you get the work done. Free daily schedule template What is a daily schedule template?Įvery day, you go through a routine set of tasks, both at work and in your personal life. With daily planning, you can set yourself up for success, even on days when you don’t feel all that productive. Today, you'll learn the importance of a daily schedule for time management. When you have a clear understanding of how you're using your time, you won’t always feel like you’ve run out of it. By separating out each block, you can dedicate specific time for working, socializing, eating, and creating. When this happens, it can be helpful to think of a day not as a single unit but as 24 hour-long blocks of time. Sometimes it feels like you don't have enough hours in the day. Plus, by visualizing your work in multiple ways, you can plan your day and set yourself up for success. When you create your daily schedule template in an online tool, you’ll have the added flexibility to make changes and track updates in real-time. It can give you structure, reduce stress, and increase productivity. A daily schedule is an excellent way to manage life’s moving parts. Select Source Control > Git Repository Settings > Remotes, and then choose Add to open the Add Remote dialog. To add an upstream alias in Visual Studio, follow these steps:Ĭhoose Tools > Options from the menu bar to open the Options window. The following steps describe how to add an upstream alias. For convenience, add another alias named upstream for the repo you forked from, which is referred to as the upstream repo. When you clone a remote repo, Git assigns the alias origin as shorthand for the URL of the remote repo you cloned. For more information about cloning a repo, see Clone an existing Git repo. You can clone from the command line or by using an IDE like Visual Studio. Clone your fork locallyĪfter you've forked a repo, clone your fork to create a local copy in a folder on your computer. If the repo contains several topic branches, then consider only including the default branch in your fork.įor information about how to fork a GitHub repo, see Fork a repo. You can specify whether the fork will contain all branches or just the default branch. In the Fork dialog, name the forked repo, choose the project where you want the fork to be created, select the branches to include in the fork, and then choose Fork. Select Repo > Files and then choose Fork from the ellipsis menu to open the Fork dialog. For more information about setting permissions, see Set Git repository permissions.įrom your web browser, navigate to the Azure Repos Git repo that you want to fork. Repo owners should consider creating a dedicated project for forks and assigning the Create Repository permission to all contributors. To fork a repo in an Azure DevOps project, you must have the Create Repository permission for that project. The following steps describe how to fork an Azure Repos Git repo. The forking workflow consists of five steps that are described in the following sections. To enable forks for a GitHub repo, see Managing the forking policy for your organization. To enable forks for an Azure Repos Git repo, see enable Forks. Other collaborators should use a forking workflow to isolate their proposed changes until the core contributors have a chance to review their work. Typically, only core contributors to your project should have direct commit rights to your original repo. If your repo has a large number of casual or infrequent committers, such as an open source project might, we recommend the forking workflow. However, if your team expands and outgrows this arrangement they can switch to a forking workflow. Choose between branches and forksįor a small team of 2-5 developers, a forking workflow might not be necessary because everyone can work in feature branches and branch policies can protect the default branch. The destination repo's permissions, policies, builds, and work items will apply to the PR. The most common direction is from fork to upstream. You can create PRs to merge changes in either direction: from fork to upstream, or upstream to fork. The original repo is often referred to as the upstream repo. To clone or contribute to code, you must be a member of the Contributors security group or have the corresponding permissions. If you aren't a project member, get added. To view code, you must be a member of an Azure DevOps project with Basic access or higher. This article addresses working with forks in Azure Repos Git repositories, and provides links to GitHub content that discusses how to manage Forks in GitHub repos. The forking process doesn't transfer any permissions, policies, or build pipelines from the original repo to your fork. If you want to merge your codebase changes into the original repo, you must create a pull request (PR) to request review and approval of those changes. The fork is independent of the original repo, and is a complete copy unless you specify a single branch.Īs an independent copy, changes you make to your fork, such as adding commits or branches, aren't shared with the original repo. A new fork is basically a clone of the original repo pushed to a new remote repo. Git repo forks are useful when people want to make experimental, risky, or confidential changes to a codebase, but those changes need to be isolated from the codebase in the original repo.
