Let’s take a crack at predicting the future and what the Cowboys’ roster will look like this season.Īll new additions will be in bold and rookies will be in bold italics. With Mike McCarthy now in the building as the team’s head coach, what will the Cowboys’ roster look like in 2020? How will the depth chart shake out? The issue of Prescott’s contract has been the most prominent story in Dallas most of the offseason, even after the team was able to steal Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The team found a way to get a new contract done with wide receiver Amari Cooper even after having to use the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott. ![]() The Cowboys moved the ball well, scoring 434 points, and the defensive squad allowed 321. The Dallas Cowboys have spent the first half of the year re-tooling their roster with some key losses on defense during free agency and a lot of money spent on the offensive side of the ball. The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League ended the 2019 season with a record of 8 wins and 8 losses, finishing second in the NFLs East Division of the National Football Conference. ![]() The 2020 NFL offseason has been seemingly dragging along especially in the last three months as the COVID-19 pandemic has spread around the globe and affected everyone’s everyday lives, including the biggest professional sports league in the country. It feels like a couple of years have already gone by since the Dallas Cowboys and Jason Garrett parted ways before the team moved to hire Mike McCarthy as their newest head coach. Also, wide receiver Noah Brown will miss the roster as well, unless Johnson misses more time than usual because of Covid-19.INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – FEBRUARY 26: Head coach Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys interviews during the second day of the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium on Februin Indianapolis, Indiana. Who doesn’t make the roster?Īs far as special teamer, wide receiver Ventell Bryant, who had a recent DUI charge, I don’t think he makes the roster this year for the Cowboys. I’m excited to see the second-year wide receiver make some plays during camp and earn a roster spot. Could this possibly remove his chances of making the roster? Maybe, and if that’s the case I can see wide receiver Noah Brown taking his place.Īll the best to Johnson and a quick recovery. My only real concern with Johnson is he was recently placed on the NFL’s reserve/Covid-19 list. The Cowboys sixth and final roster spot for the wide receiver position is a tough call, but again given the circumstances of how training camp will play out and not having any preseason games I’m going to give the nod to wide receiver Jon’Vea Johnson. This will be a make or break year for the young wide receiver. Wilson can become a reliable weapon for Dallas if called upon, but it all comes down to whether or not he can stay on the field. Yes, he has spent pretty much his entire career on the Injured Reserve list, but I think his versatility in the return game and being able to play both outside and in the slot will benefit him in this year’s weird training camp. The fifth roster spot will belong to wide receiver Cedrick Wilson. The speedster would be a nice addition to the Cowboys four-wide receiver set and would make for quite a dynamic presence alongside Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb. The fourth roster spot I believe will be given to wide receiver Devin Smith. Leaving them with potentially three more roster spots available. The Boys already have their top three targets locked in with Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb. And special teams will play a role in that number as well. Who makes the Dallas Cowboys roster?Īgain, I’m visualizing the Cowboys keeping six wide receivers on the roster. It’s going to be even tougher on players and coaches due to a virtual-only offseason training program and not having any preseason games at all, which players use to help separate themselves from the pack. However, the rest of the wide receiver depth chart gets a bit tricky to navigate. After embarrassing the Cowboys in the wild-card round, the young Green Bay Packers had a chance to take out the No. ![]() The three-headed monsters of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and rookie CeeDee Lamb will be a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators. If you take a look at the current roster, most will agree that the wide receiver position is one of the strongest position groups on the team … and potentially in the entire league. This will allow them to lock in a four or five wide sets, if they choose to do so, and it will give them depth for in-game emergencies. The Dallas Cowboys, like most years, will probably go into the season with six wide receivers on the roster heading into Week One. MARCH 8 PICKS The Dallas Cowboys officially have their 2024 NFL Draft order set after Fridays release of the compensatory draft picks for all eligible teams. The Dallas Cowboys top three targets at wide receiver are a given, but how does the rest of the receiver’s room shake-up?
